Saints Community Project
- Every Wednesday at Brackley Town Football Club, we hold what started out as a coffee morning: anyone is welcome for tea/coffee and cake, plus other snacks, from 10.00am. This is open to everyone although most of our attendees may live alone and therefore welcome the companionship that this gathering offers. There is a small charge to cover what you eat and what you drink.
- Kim Grantham, the project manager, has an arrangement with Waitrose and collects unsold items for redistribution under the FareShare scheme, so a selection of fruit, vegetables, bread, ready meals will be there for the picking. There is no charge but any small donations are welcome as these contribute to the running of the overall scheme.
- Additionally, once a month there is entertainment and, on the first Wednesday of each month, there is a Bingo session.
- Once a month, there is a sale, run by the attendees for the attendees, and this has turned into a rather large bring-and-buy sale: anything goes – and comes!
- Various agencies attend periodically – from Community Connect who will help with, for example, applications for Pension Tax Credit or for other potential benefits, to the police and trading standards who will advise against possible scams. There is usually someone from South Northants Volunteer Bureau on hand. Advice is on hand regarding disabled badges, the volunteer car scheme and so much more.
- The charity has been gifted some laptops by West Northamptonshire Council and these are available, on request, for people to deal with online queries (often in the presence of someone who will help them).
- Every week a home-cooked lunch is an optional extra (current price is £5.50 for a main course and an extra £2 for a pudding if wished): many of our “regulars” have commented that this is the only occasion each week that they do not eat alone.
- Periodically, there are special “event” days when we have a party – Valentine’s, Easter Bonnet, Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Dinner when every attendee receives a small gift. This year, already, we had a special day to commemorate VE Day on 8 May, and we have a special “Summer Holiday” event planned for Wednesday 25 June when we will celebrate 10 years of this wonderful community project
