Our club, our town, our community. Most of the content of our regular matchday programmes centres, as would be expected, around the game of football. But Brackley Town Football Club is so much more.
It is now over ten years since the Saints Community Project was born; what started out as an informal coffee morning for anyone feeling lonely, isolated or vulnerable that was initially attended by about four or five people has grown into so much more. The brainchild of our own Kim Grantham, it has evolved into a weekly gathering of well over 100 people of all ages – everyone is welcome.
Hot drinks and cake are the backbone of each Wednesday morning, and the “fleshing out" may be musical entertainment, a visit from the police to offer advice and guidance on matters of safety, a presentation from Fire & Rescue offering help with home safety, a regular attendance by agencies to help with form-filling and money-saving or someone giving advice on keeping fit and warm. The project is run entirely by volunteers, and it would not be possible without them.
However, it would also not be possible without the support of the club which offers us space – space that has grown as the numbers in attendance have grown – and, most importantly, without the financial support of the National League Trust: financial support that the Saints (Brackley) Community Trust would not be eligible for if our senior football team were not playing at the level they are.
We had a 10th birthday party in the summer, sadly for programme readers this was during the close season so we were unable to share it with you at that time. And this summer there were two day-trips to Stoke Bruerne for a boatride along the canal and through the Blisworth Tunnel. Saints Community Project aims to offer something for everyone, and we do it with you and for you.
